Recently The Cupcake Kitchen Sydney crew attended the Cake, Bake and Sweets Show at Sydney Olympic Park.
The event was held over 3 days and included celebrity demonstrations, hands-on classes, taste testing, hints, tips and baking advice from professional Australian and International chefs and bakers, and of course, lots of stalls promoting cake businesses, tools of the trade, and lovely sweet items to purchase on the day.
The standout demonstrations of the day for me were The Great Australian Bake Off’s Maria Vella who demonstrated how to make savoury Spanakopita Lattice Loaves, which are perfect for a quick bite or to serve to guests at home.
Duff Goldman, from Foxtel Lifestyle Food channel Ace of Cakes was very interesting to watch with his unusual methods of baking and his fascinating cake creations. We watched him create some very different looking cakes such as a hamburger and fries cake.
We were fortunate to get the chance to watch Eric Lanlard – UK based, French chef from Foxtel Lifestyle Food channelBaking Mad. It was inspirational to watch his passion for chocolate shine through whilst demonstrating how to make a Salted Butter Caramel Cake as well as a Chocolate Cassis Royale cake during two separate cooking demonstrations. I bought a copy of his new book Chocolat, which of course, represents all things chocolate, so I am looking forward to trying out some of his recipes.
It was great to see so many people from Sydney and afar who attended the Cake, Bake and Sweets Show - it was packed to the brim with people. Adriano Zumbo’s Patisserie stand was extremely popular on the day, with macarons being the flavour of the day for many guests who attended.
Whist at the show, I did some sampling, and I have now added another chocolate shop to my list of Sydney chocolate favourites, this one being Josophan’s Fine Chocolates which is located on the corner of York & King Streets in Sydney city. I tried their dairy-free praline as well as a peanut butter cup, which now both happen to be on my list of top chocolates. I highly recommend checking out this store, which originated in The Blue Mountains.
We were lucky to have had the opportunity to see some wonderful demonstrations on the day and to learn some new techniques and ideas from some of the masters in the baking industry.
